Kenny Cassidy, WN2WNC
(1953)
I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING IN 1953 AS A NOVICE AT 18 YEARS OLD.
I HAD A JOHNSON ADVENTURER AND A ARC 5 RECEIVER AND A LONG WIRE ANTENNA, NOT
KNOWING THE RESONANCE OF THE THING. I USED A DOUBLE POLE DOUBLE THROW SWITCH
TO GO FROM TO XMIT/REC.
WE LIVED IN BROOKLYN NY AND ONE DAY GETTING HOME FROM SCHOOL, MOM SAID ''
WHAT DID YOU DO NOW'' I RECEIVED A OO REPORT FROM ALBANY NY (my best dx)
I LOOKED AT THE XMIT AND HAVING A 3709 KC XTAL IN THE XTAL SOCKET AND THE BANDSWITCH
ON 40M XMIT ON 7418 KC I WAS HEARD 599 + ... I WAS HAPPY TO MAKE THE DISTANCE.
I MANAGED TO KEEP WN2WNC AS MY CALL.
