I was licensed in 1957, age 16, as a novice. The license arrived in June, WN6JRS. I remember taking the code test. It was given by the father of a high school classmate. He asked if I wanted a little practice code before the test. I said,"sure". So he sent some code, came over and looked at it and said,"You passed". What a relief.
My second remembrance is a Novice Roundup. When it was over I computed my score and thought that it was too low to even send it in. My best friend had a score a little lower than mine, he sent his in, and was the high scorer in our region. By June 1958, I had received my general, and got the same call with the N dropped, W6JRS. |
